My Little Planet
So I decided to start coding a real-time procedural planet renderer in late november 2011. Let’s see how things will work out!
Tutorials (to come)
- Geometry: From box to ass to planet
- The chunked quadtree & MPI
- Fractals: 3D Perlin noise & the ridged multifractal
- Employing slaves: the fragment & vertex shader
- Of normals, colours and textures
- The Atmosphere shader
- Bump Mapping Cheating
- Getting the water just right
- Clouds: Why We Love Perlin Noise
- Planetary structures: rings, moons
- Code structure

Your planets are big and the level of detail is great when you are close to a planet. That’s why I wonder how big is a planet? If you are making a planet as big as the Earth, you might need big numbers. Anyway, good job. :)
